Additional Pokémon: More than 80 Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games, as well as Pokémon with gender-specific variations, will start rolling out in Pokémon GO. Starting later this week, you'll have the opportunity to catch more than 80 Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games. New Berries: Pokémon enjoy eating Berries, and you'll have the opportunity to get two new Berries by spinning the Photo Disc at PokéStops—Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries! New Evolutions: There are now more opportunities to evolve your Pokémon in Pokémon GO than ever before. The only hint that Gen 2 was coming this week, possibly on the 18th, was a photographed sign at a German mall that said Gold and Silver Pokémon were arriving on that day.

Beyond the simple act of finding and catching Pokémon, there's not really a game here. It's by far the biggest update the game has seen yet, and it's cause for excitement after a long winter for a game that's seen a dwindling player base. It needs real combat, it needs PvP options, and it needs some sort of single player "campaign" that allows trainers to make use of their Pokémon outside the pointless gym system. I do love this game, and cannot quite resist the dopamine rush of a new Pokémon. But without some sort of new gameplay or meaningful endgame, Gen 2 will be a punctuation mark on an overall decline.
