Yesterday it was revealed that yes, this was all part of a master plan coordinated between Nintendo, The Pokémon Company and Niantic. That's more than the 300 million sales Pokémon has racked up with its handheld and console spin-off games. What that means is that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company want to turn those people into customers who will A) buy Pokémon games on Switch and B) buy a Switch in the first place.
