It was the event which Niantic decided to start releasing new Gen 3 Pokemon. So why couldn't the Pokemon Go Gen 4 release date be set for around that time in 2018?

And these aren't even the Ultra Bonus that has been teased by Niantic over the past few weeks. "Due to the amazing achievements of Trainers all over the world, an Ultra Bonus will be coming soon!" the message from Niantic reads.
